Did you know that some of the ancients regarded blue not as a true color but as a shade of darkness? It’s true. Even through modern times [and she means the 1890s] some painters consider all shadows or smoke to be shades of blue. It’s a cave’s shadow, the darkness before a person, and a frightening color it is.

But still, they were primitive people and they may have been wrong. Regardless of whether the ancients were right, we’ve all gotten a healthy – or not so healthy – dose of the shade by now. We’re all in for a different color, aren’t we?

The new shade ought to be worth the suffering.

[Clients are clients and inmates are inmates. The two are certainly separate things. While clients are important, inmates will always take precedence over anything else. Alana had been unsure as to whether or not to approach Bleu given that this was only a temporary assignment. Her (potential) needs in this particular situation were a little different from a more permanent situation. But now that Bleu had reached out, Alana was not going to ignore her or set her aside.]

I know I'm only your warden in a temporary capacity and we don't really know each other, but I do want you to know that my door is always open if you need anything.

[What Bleu needs, in her opinion, is entertainment. Amusement is literally her life, and it takes precedence over Alana's comfort or business. Hence the message regardless of her notice to be left alone; Bleu doesn't know the woman but knows she immediately needs to study her and see what she can draw out.]

My favorite artist?

[It seems like an odd question to ask, so Alana is temporarily quiet. She can't say she's had much exposure to art beyond what a standard education would expose her to and it was never anything she pursued that much of an interest in. She was appreciative of it, but no more than in passing.]

I guess it would have to be Renoir.

If you want to sneak around at night undetected, black is conspicuous. Warriors a hundred, two hundred years ago, wore dark blue--it blends in with the night better.

I was a fine view, and still is a fine view. I myself see no reason to need to see it any other way, nor so i see a thing wrong with the color.

[Bleu looks pleased. Beyond pleased, she looks tickled; people who like her color are wonderful. Nonhuman people who do are even better.]

I agree wholeheartedly. It's a color I'd prefer to keep myself, but it's always interesting to compare the shades.

It has always been a favorite of mine as well. It works for any and every occasion. It is a fine enough color to represent not only moods but a soulful type of music now long dead, but no less important. Which is to say, I favor it myself.

Is she doing video? If so he can be confused about the face but I wanted to check XD

I never was much of a painter, but shadows are always the hardest to get right, even with a pencil. Funny, huh? Considering we spend so much time worrying about them.

But you're definitely not wrong. No shadow is completely black.

I do, yeah. Not as much time for it now as I used to have, but I try not to let myself get too rusty.

I'm sure you can guess my preferred color, though a variation might be nice. Teal, perhaps. But honestly, I'd guess we're going to encounter yellow.
